Opera has unveiled Opera Neon, an AI-powered web browser that promises to transform browsing into an active and exciting experience. Neon is described as the first agentic browser, capable of interpreting user intent and autonomously completing complex online activities, from booking travel to building websites and generating code. This marks an evolution from traditional browsers, positioning Opera Neon as an assistant as well.

At the heart of Opera Neon are three integrated AI agents – Chat, Do, and Make – each accessible via a sidebar. The Chat agent delivers conversational assistance, contextual search responses, and multilingual support within the browser. Do, leveraging Opera’s Browser Operator AI, automates tasks such as form filling, ticket purchases, and reservation arrangements. Make harnesses cloud-powered virtual machines to construct web applications, prototypes, and reports based on text prompts, continuing work seamlessly, even when users go offline.

Opera has emphasized privacy and user control in Neon’s design. The Browser Operator AI executes locally, ensuring sensitive data never leaves the user’s device, while the cloud-based Make service operates on secure European servers. Users retain full visibility into agent activities and can cancel automation at any time.

Currently available to an audience via an invite-only waitlist, Opera Neon will launch globally as a premium subscription product available worldwide, though pricing details remain under wraps. Interested users can sign up today on Opera’s website for access and updates.

Opera Neon builds on Opera’s AI initiatives, including its mindfulness-focused Air browser and the original 2017 Neon concept. By embedding agentic capabilities at its core, Opera aims to redefine the browser’s role, transforming it from a passive portal into an intelligent collaborator capable of executing tasks on behalf of users.
