The solar-charging remote that debuted at CES 2021 has been updated by Samsung. In addition to using light to charge the battery, Samsung claims that the new Eco Remote can transform radio waves from routers into energy to keep it completely charged.
It’s a good idea to use radio waves from routers to charge the battery because that energy would otherwise be wasted. Several firms have tapped into radio frequency (RF) harvesting in recent years, while the technology appears to be best suited to low-power gadgets like TV remotes.
On the back of the remote, there’s a solar panel with specialized buttons for streaming applications like Netflix, Disney+, and Prime Video. The remote is made of recycled materials, which is consistent with Samsung’s commitment to environmental sustainability. While the Solar Cell Remote Control was only available in black last year, there will be a white variant in 2022 to match the design of Samsung’s lifestyle TVs.
