Sony Airpeak S1 drone’s pre orders have begun by the company a few months later than expected. Sony says the Airpeak S1 is the smallest drone that can accommodate a full-size, mirrorless Alpha camera.
The Airpeak line’s first model is compatible with numerous Sony cameras, including the Alpha 1, Alpha 7S, Alpha 7R, and Alpha 9 series. According to the company, the S1 boasts patented technology that allows for smooth movement at high speeds and consistent wind resistance, allowing cinematographers and photographers to shoot high-quality film and photographs from the sky.
Sony says that the S1 can fly for up to 22 minutes in natural flight mode and up to 12 minutes with a hefty payload, such as an Alpha 7S III with a FE 24mm F1.4 GM lens. The drone can reach a peak speed of slightly about 56 miles per hour.
The Airpeak Flight app for iOS gives real-time status information and hardware updates. Users can utilize the Airpeak Base web app to design complex, repeatable flight plans, manage the drone and camera, and troubleshoot problems. There’s also a dual operating option that lets one person control the drone while another operates the camera and gimbal. What the camera is collecting is visible to both users.
The Airpeak S1 includes two propeller sets, two rechargeable batteries, and a controller. Sony has knocked $1,000 off the previously disclosed price, bringing the total to a still-heartbreaking $9,000. The S1 is expected to ship on December 24th, so it may come a little too late to be a really generous holiday present.
Airpeak Plus, an optional cloud service, provides additional storage, better geofencing capabilities, and flight log importing and exporting. It costs nearly $300 a year.
