Apple is soon to give a software update to iPhone 13 to allow DIY screen replacements without tampering with face ID, as reported by the Verge.

We only know that such a software update is on the cards. There is no clue about the exact timings of the release of such an update. Anyways, this news brings relief to iPhone 13 owners as they can do third-party screen replacements in the future without breaking their face ID functionality.

At present, a microchip attached to the original screen is necessary to use Face ID and repair shops need to transfer this microcontroller to enable face recognition in the new screen. The new update will ditch this by allowing users to change screens without this microchip. This means that even after a screen swap, your Face ID will continue working flawlessly.

This change of attitude of the world’s largest technology company when it comes to repairing their devices at unauthorized stores (third-party screen replacements) has become a blessing now. The new Apple iPhone 13 owners can fix their phone screens without any fear of losing their face ID functionality. This is a relief for independent repair shops as well as they can do screen replacements without much hassle. In the current scenario that requires the transfer of a microcontroller, the repair person needs to invest more time and attention to detail as it can be quite challenging with the use of special equipment and micro-soldering.

iFixit reported last week about this challenging scenario of the disablement of the “flagship Face ID functionality when you replace its screen”. It described it as “a dark day for fixers, both DIY and professional.” The imminent update is going to turn things around both for repair shops and iPhone 13 owners.Apple launched iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini in September this year “featuring a sleek and durable design, an advanced new dual-camera system for improved photos and videos in low light, and introducing Cinematic mode”. Both models flaunt major innovations, comprising “the most advanced dual-camera system ever on iPhone”. May sources cite iPhone 13 as a tempting choice when it comes to picking a new iPhone.
