Reddit is expanding its live audio talks to desktop and adding numerous new features that will make the conversations simpler to find and engage in, nearly a year after launching Reddit Talk.
The audio conversations were only available on mobile when they first began in April, and Reddit users had to listen live to keep up with the topic.
Reddit Talk is now available in desktop browsers, and talks are now recorded so that users can watch them later. Participants will be able to comment without needing to use the “raise hand” option and wait for the moderator to enable their mic, according to Reddit.
Finally, Reddit is attempting to make audio chats more accessible by putting a “live bar” to the top of the app that displays real-time talks, similar to how Twitter puts live chats in Twitter Spaces to the top of users’ timelines.
Reddit is pushing live audio to be a more prominent component of its platform with the expansion. It’s unclear how frequently Reddit Talk is utilized, but the firm claims to have witnessed “250% growth in daily active listeners” in a blog post. More than 1,000 subreddits, including r/cryptocurrency, r/wallstreetbets, and r/space, have activated the feature so far, according to the company.
