
A new kind of prompts is being tested by Twitter on iOS and Android that warns you before entering a potentially heated conversation. In one case, a prompt that states “conversations like this can be intense” is thrown right into the middle of a conversation. Another is headed with “let’s look out for each other” and puts out three bullet points to encourage compassionate and fact-based talks. This appears when you try to react to one of those intense exchanges.
Twitter has tweeted examples of these prompts as well.
Another prompt, for example, warns you before tweeting something potentially unpleasant. Twitter may also notify you if you try to retweet an item it believes you haven’t read, which may assist to reduce the spread of misinformation. While these may assist to prevent some inappropriate tweets from being posted, the expanding list of possible cautions to go through before tweeting is a concerning sign of the overall experience.
