WhatsApp has brought a new Chat Lock feature. This feature is said to help users keep their messages and conversations private and secure. Even though WhatsApp already provides end-to-end encryption on the app, the new feature would serve as an added layer. It would allow users to choose conversations that they want to keep hidden from others. A person can keep these conversations locked with the use of a passcode, fingerprint, or face unlock options. This globally launched feature will be rolled out to all Whatsapp users on both Android and iOS.
Meta announced that it’s introducing a new security layer for WhatsApp chats with the new ‘Chat Lock’ feature. This was announced in a blog post on Monday. As per Meta, when a user enables this feature, it will move locked chat threads to a different folder. It will not show the sender’s name or the message preview whenever any notifications come from these chats. Furthermore, the media files shared in these chats won’t be saved into the gallery of the user’s phone automatically.
Users would able to lock these chats using many security options like a passcode, fingerprint, or Face ID authentication. This Chat Lock feature is available on WhatsApp for Android as well as iOS users.
Users would require to download the latest version of WhatsApp available on the App Store, or Google Play Store to avail of this feature. It is available with WhatsApp for Android version 2.23.10.71 and WhatsApp for iOS version 2.23.9.77.
A user should tap on the thread and click on Chat Lock to move any conversation to the locked folder. As stated in the blog, Meta is working to introduce various new updates to the feature, like creating customized passwords. It will be different from already existing passwords for unlocking the phone. The social media company is also working to make the Chat Lock feature work well on all companion devices in which a WhatsApp account is active.
