It’s about to get a lot easier to message new people on WhatsApp. According to a reliable source, a new version is going out that allows you to contact anybody you want without first saving their information. That’s right, no more unlabeled contacts for people you connect with on WhatsApp once and never chat with again.
You can test this new feature in the same manner that you would any other message. On your home screen, click the new message button (top right for Apple devices, bottom right for Android devices), and then input the number into the search bar. The number will display in the category “Not in your contacts.” To the right of the person’s phone number and profile photo is a button that says “chat,” which launches you into a discussion with them.
The only exceptions up to now have been beginning a conversation using a web link and replying to unsaved numbers in group conversations. However, you still had to enter a chat via a QR code or an invitation from someone you already knew. The latest WhatsApp update is currently going out to all users, so you should be able to enjoy the new feature shortly.
