WhatsApp intends to discontinue support for iOS versions 10 and 11. A new message, discovered by a reliable source, advises iPhone users to update to the most recent version of Apple’s mobile operating system supported by their device to continue using the app beyond October 24th. According to a WhatsApp support article, the company recommends iOS 12 as a starting point for iPhone users. If you still have an iPhone 5s, 6, or 6s, you can use WhatsApp, however, iPhone 5 and 5c owners may need to consider switching to a new smartphone.
Given that the iPhone 5 and 5c are over a decade old, the change is unlikely to affect many people. When you do come across an iPhone 5, it’s almost always a touch. Despite this, millions of people worldwide rely on WhatsApp to interact with their friends and family, and there are certain to be a few iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c owners among them.
