WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is reported to add two-step verification to its desktop app and web versions as per some sources. This news comes in the wake of WhatsApp’s efforts to migrate chat history from Android phones to iOS.

Two-step verification is already available on the mobile app version. Users just need to enter a personal PIN when registering their phone number with WhatsApp.

As per sources,  the two-step verification feature can be enabled or disabled on the web and desktop versions. This feature is hugely beneficial in the event of loss or theft of your phone and when you forget your PIN. This feature will help you restore it by getting a reset link.

Many people and businesses are using WhatsApp to work, communicate, and collaborate. There are increasing incidents of criminals attempting to fool WhatsApp users with scams. Even after introducing two-step verification in mobile versions and allowing users to unlock the app with Touch ID or Face ID, these instances of fraud are on the rise.

It is in this context that WhatsApp is initiating multi-device support functionality, wherein users will be able to access the app from the desktop or the web. They can do it without having their phone nearby/turned on. This feature of two-step verification on web and desktop versions will indeed help users with extra protection.

There is no confirmed information about when will it be available or public beta testers. It’s currently in the initial stages of development.

The tech giant is also working on an update that will allow users to hide their ‘Online Status’ from selected contacts. This option will let users decide who they want to show their active status and who they want to hide their online movement from in the app.

The platform is reportedly receiving some upgrades to its voice call interface becoming more company and modern.
