Grok, the AI chatbot developed by xAI, is now available as a standalone app for iOS.
This app is currently accessible in several countries, including the U.S., Australia, and India. It can pull real-time information from the web and X, and it offers a range of generative AI capabilities such as rewriting text, summarizing lengthy paragraphs, answering questions, and even creating images based on text prompts.
The official xAI account shared the news of Grok’s iOS app launch in a post on X, highlighting that users can utilize the app’s features without needing to log in. However, signing into an X account enhances the experience by allowing the AI chatbot to tailor its responses to individual users.
“Grok is an AI-powered assistant designed to be maximally truthful, useful, and curious. Get answers to any question, generate striking images, and upload pictures to gain a deeper understanding of your world,” reads the app listing. It also highlights that the iOS version is powered by the Grok 2 AI model, the same LLM that powers both the free and premium web versions.
Once users install the app, they are directed to a new chat window to start engaging with the chatbot. The Grok iOS app allows users to chat, create images, browse the web and X for real-time updates, as well as generate essays and emails.
xAI is also working on a new website, Grok.com, aimed at making the chatbot available on the web. Right now, when you log in with your xAI account, the site displays a “coming soon” message.
According to the company, the image generator model of its chatbot is particularly skilled at producing “photorealistic renderings” and has few restrictions on image creation. This flexibility enables users to generate images that feature public figures and copyrighted materials.
