YouTube is experimenting with a new integration featuring Google Gemini to assist creators in brainstorm video ideas, titles, and thumbnails. The Google-owned platform revealed the introduction of the Brainstorm with Gemini feature in a video shared on its Creator Insider channel.

The feature is currently accessible to a select group of creators as part of a small, limited trial. YouTube plans to gather feedback from these creators before determining whether to expand the feature to a wider audience. This new tool could provide YouTube with a competitive advantage over other social media video platforms commonly used by creators, as it offers features not found on those rival platforms. Moreover, integrating Google’s AI into YouTube is a strategic move to encourage creators to utilize its AI tools rather than opting for alternatives like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

The Brainstorm with Gemini feature is reminiscent of another AI tool YouTube introduced in the testing phase in May, which serves as an AI-driven content inspiration tool. This earlier feature helps creators by suggesting video topics that resonate with their audience and then provides an outline of key talking points to kick-start the creative process. Creators now have the opportunity to receive similar assistance using Gemini, the brand name for Google’s suite of large language models featured in many of its products. YouTube views this new addition as a way to assess whether creators favor the inspiration tool, the Gemini integration, or both for generating content ideas.

Creators participating in the experiment can access YouTube Studio, enter a video idea into the search bar, and then choose between two options: the inspiration tool or the Brainstorm with Gemini feature. Although the inspiration tool already assists in generating video ideas, YouTube aims to determine if creators also find value in using Gemini for brainstorming.

While platforms like TikTok and Instagram are currently leveraging generative AI to help creators create digital avatars of themselves, YouTube is focusing on applying this technology to enhance content creation.
