Zoom, the trusty video conferencing platform has gotten a makeover that was long overdue. Zoom has launched an AI-powered collaboration tool called Zoom Workplace. Zoom Workplace offers AI Companion, which is a suite of GenAI tools. It has been made available to paid users. Zoom Workplace also has additional features, such as a new meeting tab experience that provides all the necessary resources in one location. Users who have linked their account to Zoom Calendar or another calendar service can also benefit from enhanced collaboration. “Zoom Workplace is our new, AI-powered collaboration platform designed to help your organization reimagine teamwork by streamlining communications, increasing employee engagement, optimizing in-person time, and improving productivity across flexible work,” reads Zoom’s blog post. The Zoom AI companion includes features such as a generative AI assistant that can automatically summarize meetings, offers sentence completion, and a quick schedule feature that helps users schedule meetings by identifying the purpose of the chat and automatically filling in the meeting details. Additionally, Zoom plans to release Ask AI Companion, an improved digital assistant, and generative AI-powered virtual backgrounds in the near future. In addition to offering four distinct color themes, including regular dark or light mode, the new Zoom Workplace is now jam-packed with accessibility features like a customizable toolbar. The Zoom Workplace app has been updated with a new multi-speaker view mode and document collaboration features. Additionally, it has image quality enhancement features like personalized audio isolation features for a clearer audio stream by limiting background noise, dynamic reactions with the option to use emojis to react, and portrait lighting, which uses AI to illuminate the face in case of poor lighting. According to Smita Hashim, chief product officer of Zoom, giving Zoom subscribers free access to the GenAI features is a practical approach to delivering real value amidst the hype surrounding AI. “We were founded on doing what’s right for our customers,” she said, “and we firmly believe that offering Zoom AI Companion at no additional cost to our paid Zoom user accounts delivers tremendous value as we all navigate the challenges facing us today.”
